By unanimous decision Darleys Perez retained his World Boxing Association lightweight 135 lbs interim title, in his second title defense.

Perez defeated the Peruvian 118-109, 118-108 and 120-107, Jonathan Maicelo, sixth in the ratings, in Santa Ynez, California on Friday.

The Colombian met an impetuous Challenger who wanted to complicate the actions, but the interim Champion remained calm, distance and his effectiveness in his connections to take advantage of Maicelo.

In the second third of the bout, the Peruvian began to show signs of punishment on his face, after receiving several jabs at his right side that was swollen.

In round 11, Perez (32-1, 21 KO’s) had the best time of the fight when he managed to combine a good left and a right to send Maicelo (21-2, 12 KO’s), to the canvas to receive the count. However, he managed to get up with the Bell.

“I knew that he was well prepared for this fight, and thanks Dios we could win,” Perez said at the end of the fight. He said that Maicelo was a difficult opponent, “but I think that from sixth round I dominated the fight.”
