WBA will sue Venezuelan promoters

The scandal arouse on the October 27 boxing card held in Caracas, Venezuela, is very hot. Besides breach of contracts, checks without funds and documents forgery there will follow a lawsuit for damages.

Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, Executive Vice-president of the World Boxing Association (WBA) said today that the entity has granted World Intermedia Boxing 72 hours to comply with the payments to all the people affected by their breach. Otherwise it will file a lawsuit for damages.

“This has been a chain of deception and lies” said Mendoza when referring to the company represented by Hugo Bracho, Antonio Madrigal and Pedro Castillo. World Intermedia Boxing organized a double championship boxing card held on October 27 in Caracas, where the WBA Super Flyweight Champion Liborio Solis refused to fight.

Mendoza showed a series of forged documents where the entity allegedly sanctioned the Super Flyweight title fight between Liborio Solis and Jose Cabrera. “This is forged, the WBA never authorized that fight because Cabrera is not rated in our monthly ratings”, said Mendoza. He said that they had played with the image and prestige of our institution, and we will tolerate this.

Mendoza acknowledged that initially he had authorized the fight between Solis and the Mexican Victor Zaleta, however, Zaleta decided to fight for the IBF title with Leo Santa Cruz.
Regarding the women’s title fight in which the Venezuelan Ogleydis Suarez defeated Colombian Liliana Palmera, Mendoza explained that Suarez is the only boxer who has collected part of the purse, however they still owe her more than seven thousand dollars.

“This is terrible, it is an unpleasant situation that took place while the entire WBA directorate members were travelling to our Convention in Jakarta, Indonesia,” said Mendoza.
We learned that the lawsuit that is being prepared against the company will be filed in the United States, the company is domiciled. We knew unofficially that the company owes more than one hundred thousand dollars to managers, boxers, officials and the WBA bout sanction.
