Uchiyama to defend WBA belt

Unbeaten WBA Super Featherweight Champion Takashi Uchiyama (15-0, 12 KOs), a Japanese hard-puncher, will put his belt on the line against WBA#5 Roy Mukhlis (23-2-2, 18 KOs), Indonesia, at Saitama Super Arena, Saitama (near our capital Tokyo), on September 20 (our national holiday of Respect for the Aged). It was publicly announced at Watanabe Gym today (Friday).

Uchiyama impressively acquired the WBA throne by dispatching defending champ Juan Carlos Salgado via twelfth and final round TKO last January, and kept it by demolishing elongated Venezuelan Angel Granados with a vicious right in the sixth this May. The unbeaten KO artist, having scored five consecutive wins, hopes to successfully defend his title by another stoppage.

Roy Mukhlis, seven years his junior at 23, has been unbeaten since 2006, though he suffered a couple of TKO defeats when he was still a featherweight campaigner. Having lately scored twelve victories in a row, with seven within the distance, Mukhlis, a tall boxer-puncher, is called “The Sniper” in his country. He gained the PABA (Pan Asian Boxing Association) 130-pound belt as he disposed of Orlando Sitohang in nine rounds in 2005 and kept the regional belt on six occasions to his credit. It will be a sensational encounter of the hard-punchers which will certainly entertain our fight fans without doubt. This promotion will be presented by Watanabe Promotions in association with Teiken Promotions
