The WBA regrets the sensible pass away of our friends Carlos Pinango and Jesus CelisThe the World Boxing Association regrets sensible pass away of two great friends of the entity, the former Venezuelan boxer and trainer Carlos Piñango, and International Official Jesús Celis, who were always linked to sport.

Piñango passed away at the age of 54 due to respiratory arrest.

He was a professional Boxer, inspired by Rafael “Pantoño” Oronó, another great Venezuelan figure boxing, and began to train and made his first steps in amateur boxing. He became professional in 1979, and debuted against Héctor Pinto.

Two years after his debut, he had the opportunity to fight for the WBA featherweight title, against the Panamanian Eusebio Pedroza.

He retired in 1989, with a record of 35 wins, 8 loses and 24 KO’s.

Piñango was an example of personal and professional growth, he began working with the prison system in Venezuela, and he proudly claimed “inmates respect me; they love me because I treat them well. Besides, they like to train and I take advantage of that.”

He also trained talented Young boxers, and helped professional boxers like Gilbert Serrano, Lorenzo “Lencho” Parra, Alexander “Explosivo” Muñoz, Antonio Cermeño and Félix Machado.

He was a good and loyal friend, dedicated to teach his boxing techniques and life experience to his pupils.

“We, the boxers who got to know him, are aware that he was a very helpful but must of all, Piñango was very humble” said the WBA women Interim featherweight champion Ogleidis “La Niña” Suarez on twitter.

On his behalf, Yonfrez Parejo said “you told me you would always be in my corner.  I hope you do, teacher”
On November 2, 2012, in Indonesia, was his last presentation as trainer, when Parejo defeated the local Angky Angkotta and won the International WBA title.

An exemplary Official

Another low blow to Venezuelan boxing was the death of the International Official Jesús Celis.

With an extensive experience as judge in his country, he was the first Venezuelan to be international Official with the World Boxing Association.

Celis scored important title fights of figures like Wilfredo Benítez, Betulio González, Hilario Zapata and Antonio Cervantes. He scored more than 30 fights.

He refereed historical fights like Alfonso Frazer vs. Nicolino Loche in Panama, besides other 13 WBA title fights.

He was always loyal to the WBA, Celis died at the age of 89 victim of a heart arrest.

The boxing family wants to send its most heartfelt words of sympathy to the families, friends and loved ones of Carlos Piñango and Jesús Celis, two exemplary persons to Pugilism and society.

AMB lamenta fallecimiento de Carlos Piñango y Jesús Celis

La Familia de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo lamenta los sensibles fallecimientos de quienes fueran grandes amigos del ente, el ex boxeador y entrenador venezolano Carlos Piñango, y del oficial Jesús Celis, quienes siempre estuvieron ligados al deporte.

Piñango falleció el domingo a los 54 años de edad, víctima de un paro respiratorio.

Fue boxeador profesional, entusiasmado por otra gran figura del pugilismo venezolano, Rafael “Pantoño” Oronó, y comenzó a entrenar para hacer sus primeros pasos por el aficionado.  Saltó al rentado en 1979, y debutó contra Héctor Pinto.

Dos años después de su debut, tuvo la oportunidad de disputar el título pluma de la AMB, con el panameño Eusebio Pedroza.

Colgó los guantes en 1989, y dejó un total de 35 victorias (24 KO) con ocho derrotas.

Piñango se convirtió en un ejemplo de superación personal y profesional, comenzó a trabajar con el Sistema Penitenciario en Venezuela, y orgulloso aseguraba “los presos me respetan, me tienen cariño porque los trato bien. Además, a ellos les gusta entrenar y me aprovecho de eso”.

También era entrenador de talentosos jóvenes, y asistió a profesionales como Gilbert Serrano, Lorenzo “Lencho” Parra, Alexander “Explosivo” Muñoz, Antonio Cermeño y Félix Machado.

Fue amigo de los amigos, y un profesor dedicado a enseñar no sólo las técnicas de boxeo, sino también mucho de la vida a cada uno de sus pupilos.

“Los boxeadores que compartimos en vida con el sabemos que fue un gran entrenador muy servicial y sobretodo humilde profe Piñango” fueron las palabras de la campeona interina pluma Ogleidis “La Niña” Suárez en twitter.

Por su parte, Yonfrez Parejo publicó “me dijiste que siempre estarías en mi esquina. Espero que siga siendo así profesor”.

Precisamente su última pelea como entrenador fue con Parejo en Indonesia, el pasado 2 de noviembre de 2012, cuando el venezolano venció al local Angky Angkotta por el título Internacional AMB.

Un oficial ejemplar
Otro duro golpe para el boxeo venezolano fue el deceso de quien fuera un oficial ejemplar, Jesús Celis.

Con dilatada trayectoria como juez en Venezuela y se convirtió en el primero de esa nacionalidad en convertirse en internacional de la mano de la la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo.

Celis participó como juez en peleas de título mundial y fue testigo de batallas de figuras como Wilfredo Benítez, Betulio González, Hilario Zapata y Antonio Cervantes.

Fue el árbitro de la histórica pelea entre Alfonso Frazer y Nicolino Loche en Panamá, además de otras 13 pegas más por título mundial de la AMB, y cumplió con más de 30 como juez de la Asociación.

Siempre leal y amigo de la AMB, Celis falleció a los 89 años víctima de un infarto.

La Familia del Boxeo desea enviar su más sentidas palabras de pésame a los familiares, amigos y allegados de Carlos Piñango y Jesús Celis. Dos personas ejemplares para el pugilismo y la sociedad.
