Jack Johnson was the first American black fighter to become world champion, in a society marked by racism, at the beginning of last century.

Johnson was found guilty by a jury composed entirely by white in June 1913 citizens, because of a consensual relationship that claimed a Caucasian woman, who later became his wife.

Johnson was convicted by an all-white jury in June 1913, due to his relationship with a white woman who later became his wife.

He was convicted for violating the Man Act, approve in 1910 that made it illegal to transport white women across state lines for ”immoral purposes.” The fighter serviced his sentence although he considered it unfair, light of the fact that the white woman would be his wife.

This is the fourth time they ask for Johnson’s pardon in the last ten years.

Texas activists, together with Johnson’s great-great niece, Linda Haywood, are in charge of this fight, which we honorably join to request to the Government of the United States to forgive the unfair penalty to the deceased fighter.

Jack Johnson fue el primer peleador estadounidense de color en convertirse en campeón mundial, en el medio de una sociedad marcada por el racismo a comienzos del siglo pasado.

Johnson fue declarado culpable por un jurado compuesto íntegramente por ciudadanos blancos en junio de 1913, debido a una relación consensual que sostenía con una mujer caucásica, que posteriormente fue su esposa.

Fue acusado debido a la Ley Mann, aprobada en 1910 y se le prohibió sacar a las mujeres a través de fronteras estatales para “propósitos inmorales”. El peleador cumplió con su castigo impuesto, aunque siempre lo consideró injusto debido a que esa dama blanca fue finalmente su esposa.

Esta es la cuarta oportunidad en la cual se hace la solicitud del perdón a Johnson, en los últimos diez años.

Los activistas de Texas, conjuntamente con una tátara tátara sobrina de Johnson, Linda Haywood, están encargados de esta lucha, a la cual honrosamente nos unimos para solicitar al Gobierno de los Estados Unidos a perdonar la injusta pena al fallecido peleador.
