The Panamanian Hilario Zapata atended the Hall of Fame weekend as a special guest of the World Boxing Association

The Panamanian Hilario Zapata, three-time-world champion in two different divisions, is in New York as a special guest of the World Boxing Association attending the Induction weekend activities of the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
The WBA is carrying out a promotion campaign for to the induction of Hilario Zapata, from Panama, as well as Leo Gamez and Betulio González, from Venezuela in 2013. “Hilario Zapata was a great champion and has all the merits to be member of the Hall of Fame,” said Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, WBA vp.
Zapata took off from Tocumen Internation Airport in Panama bound to Newark, New York, and, one hour later, to Syracuse. He is lodged at a hotel half an hour away from the Hall of Fame
“Thanks God for this opportunity, I am very excited and thankful for everything that is happening to me, thanks to the World Boxing Association for the invitation and all the troubles they are taking for me. I am very happy because I will have the opportunity to meet many great champions in Canastota, and I hope I can join them next year. This morning, wearing a t-shirt to commemorate his career, Hilario went for a walk around the city of Syracuse. This afternoon he will attend the official opening of the Induction weekend for this year.
As part of the WBA agenda to promote Hilario Zapata will be giving away t-shirts, postcards with his picture and his biography, signing autographs and taking pictures with boxing fans.
After the induction weekend is over, Zapata will travel back to Panama on Monday June 11.

El panameño Hilario Zapata, tres veces campeón mundial de boxeo en dos categorías diferentes, ya está en Nueva York como invitado especial de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo en las inducciones al Salón de la Fama del Boxeo que se realizan este año.
El motivo de la invitación forma parte de la campaña que ha montado la AMB para promover al panameño, y a los venezolanos Leo Gámez y Betulio González, en las inducciones al Salón de la Fama del 2013. “Hilario Zapata fue un gran campeón y tiene todos los méritos para ser miembro del Salón de la Fama”, dijo Gilberto Jesús Mendoza, vice presidente de la AMB.
Zapata viajó ayer desde el aeropuerto internacional de Tocumen en la ciudad de Panamá con rumbo a Newark en Nueva York. Ahí tomó otro vuelo de 1 hora hasta la ciudad de Syracuse para hospedarse en un hotel a media hora de Canastota, lugar donde se encuentra el Salón de la Fama.
“Estoy muy contento por todo lo que me está pasando, agradezco primero a Dios. También debo dar gracias a la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo por la invitación y todas las molestias que se están tomando por mi. Estoy muy feliz, muy contento porque voy a ver a grandes campeones dentro del Salón de la Fama y ojalá el otro año pueda acompañarlos. Eso significaría mucho para mi y para mi familia y creo que con eso le daría nuevamente satisfacción a mi país (PANAMA)”, dijo Hilario Zapata a wbanews.com
