Recently elevated WBA lightweight champion Richar Abril (18-3-1, 8 KOs) successfully defended his title against previously unbeaten WBA #2 Sharif Bogere (23-1, 15 KOs) by twelve round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Bogere was very aggressive and applied rough-house tactics early. Abril, who was cut over the right eye from a headbutt, was deducted a point from referee Russell Mora in round eight. The point deduction seemed to wake up Abril who began to land repeated clean shots the rest of the way. Bogere was deducted a point in round twelve for head butting. Scores were 115-111, 116-110, 116-110.
