WBA # 3 world ranked Antonio Escalante (20-2, 13 KOs), of El Paso, Tex., will headline a July 24 card at the Don Haskins Center at UTEP in his hometown. The card, promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and televised on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights, will be the first boxing card in over a year for the border town – and first significant fight in El Paso in nearly two years. Escalante will most likely face Tomas Villa (20-6-4, 13 KOs), of Midland, Texas, who last fought a brutal war with Rogers Mtagwa in 2008 – a fight many considered ‘Fight of the Year.’ If Escalante can get by Villa, he will be looking at a title shot by the end of the year.
