After hearing the allegations, the WBA Directorate decided Richard Abril would remain as Interim Champion.

There were two strong allegations in this case; the first is based on Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios weight irregularities, and the second, based on the result of the fight held in Las Vegas. The result was a Split Decision; however, eleven officials who reviewed it and the Supervisor agreed Abril had been the winner.

Championships Committee proposal to keep Abril as Interim Champion, was supported by the International officials committee, and the vote was unanimous.

Richard Abril seguirá como campeón interino ligero

Durante la realización del Directorio de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo se hizo la propuesta de mantener al cubano Richard Abril como el campeón interino del peso ligero.

Se hizo el alegato de dos situaciones de peso. En primer lugar de las irregularidades del peso de Brandon “Bam Bam” Ríos. Además, el resultado del combate que sostuvieron Abril vs Ríos, en Las Vegas, donde se anunció una decisión dividida. La misma fue revisada por once oficiales, con más de un centenar de peleas de título, tomando en cuenta el informe del supervisor, todos dieron a Abril como el ganador.

La propuesta, del Comité de Campeonatos Mundiales, secundado por el Comité de Oficiales, alegó que se mantenga a Abril como campeón interino. Todos los integrantes del Directorio presentes en Miami, aprobaron la decisión.
