Gonzalez crushes Rosas in two rounds

On the huge Teiken card in Tokyo, Japan, Román “Chocolatito” Gonzalez crushed Francisco “Chiquita” Rosas in the second round of their rematch to win the WBA’s interim light flyweight title. Last February in Oaxaca, Gonzalez beat Rosas in a defense of his WBA minimumweight crown, but he struggled in the fight and only won a twelve round majority decision.  Gonzalez claimed that he suffered stomach problems that reduced his performance. However, the story was much different in the rematch.

From the opening bell of the first round, Gonzalez dominated the Rosas with a powerful attack that was filled with strong right hooks that hit in the face of the brave Mexican fighter. “Chocolatito” went to the canvas in the first round, but it was ruled a slip.

The second round was a blowout with Gonzalez dropping Rosas three times before the fight was waved off. “Chocolatito” was slightly wobbled by a huge right hook at the very beginning of the second, but it didn’t take long for him to land an uppercut to score the first knockdown.

He would continue with strong hooks to score the second knockdown. Another right hook would catch him on the chin and drop him for the third time, forcing the ref Takeshi Shimakawa to stop the action at 1:38 of the second round.
Gonzalez raises his record to 27-0, 23 KOs, and Rosas, the WBA’s #3, falls to 21-8-2, 12 KOs. But most important for Gonzalez is that he erases any doubt bout his superiority of Rosas. Incidentally, “Chocolatito” joins Alexis Arguello, Rosendo Alvarez, Adonis Rivas, Ricardo Mayorga and Luis Perez, as the only two-division boxing champions in the history of Nicaragua
