Cruiserweights Noel Gevor and Valery Brudov will face off at the Baden-Arena in Offenburg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, on Saturday, January 9.

Fighting out of Hamburg, Germany, by way of Yerevan, Armenia, 25-year-old Gevor hasn’t been defeated over his five-year ring career (19-0, 10 KOs). Thirteenth-ranked by the WBA, Gevor most recently fought in September 2015, winning the vacant WBO International cruiserweight title by beating Daniel Alejandro Sanabria by unanimous decision.

His 39-year-old Russian opponent is a 17-year ring vet (42-6, 28 KOs) who won the interim WBA World cruiserweight title in December 2006 by stopping Luis Andres Pineda via 11th-round TKO. He lost the title to Firat Arslan, who took it by split decision in June 2007. Brudov twice came up short in his quest for the WBA World cruiserweight title, first losing by unanimous decision to Virgil Hill in January 2006, then stopped by Guillermo Jones via 11th-round TKO in October 2010. The Russian most recently fought in April 2015, knocked out by Rakhim Chakhkiev in the fourth. He last won in February 2015, beating Sergey Beloshapkin by unanimous decision.

“Brudov is just another hurdle for me on the way to the top,” says Gevor. “If you look at his record, you could say that he is my toughest opponent to date, and on paper, it would certainly seem that way. Although, fights aren’t won on paper, they are won in the ring, and we will see how tough Brudov really is on January 9. His biggest advantage is his experience. He has already contested more than twice as many fights as me. All of his losses have come against either former or current European and World Champions, and he has held the interim World title. However, I’m the faster and more explosive fighter. I have shown in my previous fights that I can decide the outcome with a single blow or by outboxing my opponent over the distance. I believe my time has come, and on January 9, by beating Brudov, I will show that I’m ready for bigger and better challenges!”
