José “Chon” Zepeda (28-1, 23KO’s) and Carlos “Chuko” Díaz (26-0, 13KO’s) both made weight, coming in at 134.0lbs for their WBA-Intercontinental Lightweight.

The bout will take place the Auditorio del Estado in Mexicali, Baja California, and be broadcast on beIN Sports in the US and Casa del Boxeo, Azteca 7 in the region.

Zepeda will be the “hometown fighter” because Mexicali is where he started his pro career.  He is training under Robert Alcazar, who led Oscar de la Hoya to win his Olympic gold medal.

“Chon”, as they call Zepeda, has a flawless record aside from one TKO loss to Terry Flanagan in 2015, where he dislocated his shoulder in the second round and failed to come out for the third.  Since then he has went 5-0 with only one bout lasting the distance.

“Chuko” on the other hand sports a flawless record and has been in some exciting wars as he seems to never be in a bad fight and is coming into the bout with a knockout victory over Luis Miguel Montaño in March.

Both men are battle tested as the fight figures to be a very good war.  Zepeda likes to box but will likely press forward to use his heavy hands and Díaz likes to try and counterpunch, although he does not shy away from getting into a war.  You don’t want to miss this one – expect fireworks.
