To all my friends and fans:

I cannot describe this moment of glory that I’m going through right now, after I conquered the WBA Super Lightweight title last Saturday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It was a dream night for me. Due to the magnitude of the fight, the quality of my opponent Victor Ortiz, and especially beacuse of how things unfolded during the bout in my debut in the United States. Obviously, it was quite a tough fight. I was quite nervous at the beginning and things got complicated for me. But I always had the unbreakable determination of winning the fight. Every time of the three occasions I hit the canvas, I got back on my feet saying to myself that I could not lose.

My corner, headed by my trainer Miguel Diaz, finally calmed me down and I was able to adjust to Ortiz’ style from the third round on. I cannot be happier. Because of the victory and the way I obtained it. I think we did things right with my team during all these last months and this win is the product of it.

At this time I like to thank from the bottom of my heart to all those who one way or the other helped me and supported me. They are big part of this achievement.

But, especially, I want to dedicate my victory to the health of World Boxing Association’s President Dr. Gilberto Mendoza, who is going through a difficult time. But I’m sure that he will overcome this moment and recover well thanks to his great determination.

To conclude, I want to wish all the best to Victor Ortiz. He was a great warrior in the ring and a perfect gentleman outside. Don’t let yourselves be fooled by some people’s comments: Victor has the skills, the punching power and the heart and will be a world champion very soon.
