Gabriel Maestre defeated Diego Chaves via fourth round technical knockout to retain his World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedebol Title of the Super Welterweight class at the Sugar Baby Rojas Coliseum in Barranquilla, Colombia.

Maestre and Chaves were the main event on the “Double Impact” card that was a two-day event in which there was a total of 14 matches with great talents from Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina and Mexico. The bout was broadcast by ESPN Knockout.

Maestre and Chaves put on a short but entertaining fight as was expected, with Maestre dropping Chaves quickly in the first round but Chaves got up to beat referee Tony Week’s ten count. Chaves then used his veteran tactics to clinch and prolong the fight, as well as throw powerful blows to keep Maestre off of him until the fourth round when he went to the canvas multiple times complaining of blows behind the head, with his corner throwing in the towel.

With the victory Maestre is quickly proving his worth in the professional ranks after a highly decorated amateur career. He is looking for an opportunity for a world championship and despite having only two professional bouts is already climbing the rankings as his two professional bouts are against solid veterans. Maestre debuted in July this year, winning the WBA Fedebol title that was at stake in this bout.

Co-starring immediately before Maestre and Chaves was Colombian native Jeovanis Barraza facing Mexican native Fernando Silva in the welterweight class. The bout was a highly contested fight that saw good action between the two veterans with Barraza taking the majority decision after ten hard fought rounds.
