Dereck Chisora won his 29th professional fight in a candidate for fight of the year as he scored an eighth round knockout over the sturdy veteran Carlos Takam.  With the victory, Chisora won the World Boxing Association (WBA) International Heavyweight Title.

The fight took place at the O2 Arena in London and it looked like Takam was going to have a quick nights work as he had Chisora hurt and nearly down in the very first round.

Chisora would rally, holding Takam off of him for a couple rounds while digging deep into his reserves as a longtime veteran, only to start to land big punches of his own periodically.

Takam was still in the lead until in the eighth round when Chisora, who had managed to stay in the fight through some very tough moments, landed a right hand that put Takam on the canvas to the surprise and delight of the crowd.

Takam would rise off the canvas only to be put back down with another right hand which is when the fight was stopped with Takam out on the canvas.

Eddie Hearn called the fight “The best fight he has ever seen” and it is indeed a candidate for fight of the year, plus it puts the 34 year old Londoner back in the heavyweight picture right when many were thinking he was out of the picture after his roller-coaster career.
